TikTok has had great influence over the globe since its popularity grew massively in 2018. Originally known as Musical.ly, it was the go-to app for dance, music and entertainment. Nevertheless, the app found its way into being an informative piece of social media. With users using it to spread awareness, inform about inequalities, mental health and much more. Has this constant bombardment of information however, led to us to think and feel in a way that may not be true to us?

TikTok was the best thing from 2020 lockdown. Providing new music, entertainment, funny content and expression of individuality and creativity. It felt like the most engaging and fun app at the time. However, the past two years have shown the constant repetitive use of the app and the downfall of mental health. It's an addiction that no one is willing to talk about.

Body Count: Why are we so bothered?

Body count, is it how many people you've murdered or slept with? It's a taboo topic for some or an open conversation with others, but is our obsessiveness behind sex talk even relevant in our present relationships? As a society, we like to discuss the importance of body count as something that deems worthiness of a person or not. Through social media we see the way that men who sleep around want women who are "virgins". Women don't want to be with men who consistently have one night stands. Preference is viable, but when are we becoming unreasonable? Are we actually judging someone's competence? experience?

We all know it, we all drink it. Alcohol. The legal substance that has been socially accepted for centuries. Used as a form of social connection, allowing us to bond with our peers through a few "bevvy's". Alcohol has always been widely accepted but does it actually do more harm than good? Alcohol has been shown to slow down the body in the same way and even worse than some other illegal drugs. Why is it the depressant gets the limelight? but the relaxant that causes little to no harm, such as cannabis, is still banned in the UK? What does alcohol actually do to us? and should this substance actually be banned?

Toxicity can be found in everyone, with little behaviours we develop throughout life. Some are aware of this and some are unaware of this, but in the society we live in today, we can find ourselves getting lost in the word "toxic" and undermining poor behaviours in our prevalent relationships with people. We put up with the bad for too long, excuse peoples poor behaviour and allow ourselves to slowly but surely become exhausted. Does this society permit such toxic behaviours as "normal" and how do we find that fine line between healthy and unhealthy?

It seems as though many people have fallen into the debate about gender roles due to the current climate of the dating scene. Taking inspiration from platforms such as, @Whatever, FreshandFit and Pearls "JustPearlyThings", it is seen that men are displeased with women in a modern society, where women are now playing the same role men have for centuries. These podcasts spread information about men's behaviour in relation to evolution and their "natural instincts". However, are these as accurate as they state?

Pornography in this generation is at its highest. With the accessibility to porn being as easy as it is, we find ourselves indulging in the addictive behaviours associated with it. The over-consumption of porn has shown to be detrimental to us not only mentally, but also physically. Correlating to sexual dysfunctions, addiction and a lack of intimacy. But does porn contribute into the making of a criminal? A murder? A sex offender?

Women's Hypocrisy and Dick size

What is the importance of a big dick? Does it really have a purpose?. We as women, expect to never be treated any differently based off our body, colour or appearance of our vulva, or any outwardly facing characteristics. Yet, we sit and ridicule men for the size of their member. Rating inadequacies and claiming "it's a preference". As women, we hold ourselves to a standard where we are beautiful in every manner, but we continue to use toxic phrases such as, "Big dick energy" and "Small dick energy". Where is the line between "preference" and being hypocritical on how we expect men to treat us and how we treat them? Are we ultimately damaging the esteems and wellness of young men today?

In today's society, we look at inclusivity, equality, and equity. However, how have the coming years affected the way we feel about ourselves? As a mixed-race woman, it's been hard to feel that sense of belonging. I only look white, no... I'm so obviously black. Our childhood shapes a large sense of identity and inclusivity. With the perpetuation of the white woman being the standard of beauty, how is anyone else supposed to feel enough? With the lack of representation, what has the media done to our self-esteem in such a multi-cultural society?

Insecurities: Feeling through the shame

We doubt, criticise and compare ourselves as humans. We allow for the rumination of insecurities to consume us and affect our daily lives. Limiting our self-expression and individuality. Why do we, in a modern society, still deem the concept of being insecure as so detrimental to us? We don't want to be the insecure girlfriend, the insecure boyfriend, the insecure person. But when are we really not that?
